Killzone 2 PS3

Amazon.com Product Description
Get ready to take on the full strength of the Helghast war machine from a dramatic first-person perspective with Killzone 2 for PS3. From Guerilla Games, this much anticipated follow-up to Killzone for PS2 and Killzone: Liberation for PSP drops you right into the boots of battle hardened special forces soldier Sev. Set two years after the aborted Helghast assault on Vekta, the action opens with your ISA Legion squad deployed behind enemy lines on the Helghan's unforgiving home turf.

Motion blurs and studio-grade special effects bring battle to life. View larger.

First-person viewpoints and 7.1 surround sound keep you immersed. View larger.

Realistic lighting and detailed environments add a cinematic quality. View larger.

Smooth animation and improved AI give the Helghans a terrifying, realistic presence. View larger.
Combat Lifelike AI and Inhospitable Terrain
Despite the smooth character animations and swift-thinking AI behind each individual Helghan, their planet itself may be the most deceptive opponent that you face. Unlike other game environments that serve as nothing more than a visual backdrop, the devastating Helghan climate takes a notable toll. And, worst of all, the Helghans know exactly how to use the planet against you.

The in-your-face perspective comes to life as you take aim with exotic new weapons and mainstays from the previous games, including the M82-G assault rifle. And you can now drive an array of rugged, sometimes strange, vehicles that expand the gruesome possibilities of war.

Guerilla Technology in a Terrifying, Realistic World
Guerrilla's unique visuals and deferred rendering technology ensure that even the ugliest situations on Helghan are beautifully lit. Ambient occlusion and accurate shadow casting from a variety of light sources combine with gritty textures, detailed environments, and studio-grade special effects to help complete the realistic, Hollywood experience of this first-person shooter.

Real-time cutscenes, full-screen anti-aliasing, motion blurs, and internal lens reflections all bring you into the fold and work to maximize the hardware capabilities of the PS3. And the audio experience is no less impressive. 7.1 surround sound capability lend a truly dynamic sound element to your experience, while audio occlusion with wave tracing means that you can hear the difference between indoor and outdoor firefights.

Chaotic Multiplayer Drama Online
While single-player mode lets you take on the unique challenges of 11 fully developed levels, online play lets you engage with up to 32 players at a time, bringing the gritty, realistic chaos of war to a whole new level.

Other multi-player friendly enhancements in Killzone 2 include in-game clan management, a match wagering system, and the ability to integrate new information and track friends and enemies with the community at Killzone.com.

5 out of 5 stars Above and Beyond   March 10, 2010

I paid $60 for this game when it came out. I've also bought all the dlc. I still feel like I robed Guerrilla Games. I still like to play the linear, straight-forward, yet completely awesome single-player. I've spent most of the time playing the multiplayer. I like to think when I play, so mix and matching class abilities was a lot of fun. This is one aspect of the game I think people who don't get.
One interesting combination of class abilities I've used was finding a shotgun, using cloak, and proximity mines in an enemy base. I'll be standing right next to them and they won't see their death coming.

Pros:
Original sci-fi setting
Extremely great production values
Believable movement, both for your character, and when enemies get hit
Class-based multiplayer with two special abilities adding a great deal of strategy
Multiplayer matches roll through objectives constantly changing the focal point of the battle

Cons:
Some people think the controls. I love the controls.
Can't use cover in multiplayer (kind of odd)

3 out of 5 stars Keeps you going   February 20, 2010

It's Good in general. Will keep you going and engaged with its story line. The aiming and shooting controls are not as good as Call of Duty, but you'll get used to it once started. The battles and engagments with the enemies are very good and its much more of a war.

I'm am not a big fan of first person shooters. But on occasions I may come across a game that is actually fun. This game started off good but as usual as you progress through the game the AI becomes increasingly difficult. I was doing fairly well athough to be honest the computer ended up doing most of the work because it is almost impossible to aim with the analog stick. The targets move around too quickly for me to get a good aim on them and most of the time I end up wasting shots. The respawning enemies really became a problem for me. Too often they will throw me into a situation where there are too many enemies for me to handle at once. I try to find a covered position where I can get a better handle of the situation and most of the time this works but I got to a stage in this game where there were no covered positions and I had to use a tactic that I absolutely hate, run and gun. Needless to say after three hours of playing from the same saved point over and over and never clearing the stage I realized this was as far as I was going to get in this game. More money down the drain on a game I can't play. I am really getting tired of this.
I guess I'm still not a fan of first person shooters.

I guess I didn't do as bad as I thought. I didn't realize I was so close to beating this game. I'll have to give that stage another go with a little help from a strategy guide.
This game is unique in that it only allows you to carry two weapons at any given time. The down side to this is that one of those weapons is always going to be a handgun. It's nice that they give you infinite ammo but the range and rate of fire makes the weapon almost completely useless. The assault rifles because of my difficulty aiming with the analog stick tends to run out of ammo very quickly. I don't understand why this game has so many different kinds of assault rifles. Only one is worth holding on to because of the red dot sight. They have two other kinds in this game at which you can always find plenty of ammo for since both of these guns are mainly carried by the enemy but I don't understand what the differences between them are. The sniper rifle would have been useful to me if I was allowed to carry it along with my assault rifle. But as I mentioned before you're only allowed to carry a rifle and pistol. This can be very annoying in stages where you'll need to take out targets with the RPG and you'll have swarms of enemies coming at you. I can't tell you how many times I got killed because I was trying to destroy a tank and I had to drop my rifle to pick up a RPG. After I destroyed the tank I had to quickly pick up my assault rifle again but before I could I was killed by a second swarm of enemies that suddenly spawned when I destroyed the tank. The pistol is completely useless against a swarm of enemies especially with my aim. And my computer controlled partner for some reason at this point in the game can't give me any cover fire. I don't understand that. The guy is carrying a machine gun. He should be able to keep the enemy back.
As my review title states, this game is hard and I wouldn't recommend this game for anyone who isn't a hardcore gamer.

5 out of 5 stars Killzone 2   February 8, 2010

I bought this as a gift for my son for Christmas. It has been great fun for him.

5 out of 5 stars Best Shooter of 2009   February 6, 2010
J. Mccann (New Orleans)
Positives

+ Realistic weapon design with somewhat weighted controls.
+ Great level design.
+ Amazing enemy AI in singleplayer.
+ Dark and menacing enemy character designs.
+ Excellent graphics and presentation, arguably only topped by Uncharted 2 on the ps3.
+ Fun multiplayer that involves a class system, objective based gameplay, and dynamic rounds per match (for example, it can go from Bodycount to Search & Destroy to Assassination without switching maps).
+ Built in clan system for multiplayer, allowing you to form clans, arrange official matches with other clans, and bet points on matches.

Negatives

- Weak story in singleplayer.
- Annoying characters in singleplayer.
- Weak allied AI.
- Assault class in multiplayer is somewhat broken, but you have the option to disable different classes/weapons/etc when making a game.

Overall, I'd highly recommend this game, and it's in my top five favorite games for 2009. It has a great story mode and an addictive competitive multiplayer mode. However, if you're looking for cooperative play, this may not be the title for you. In that case, I'd highly recommend the fast and frenetic Left 4 Dead 2, my second favorite shooter of the year.
